Which lufthansa planes have flynet

Travelling is back! While lots of paperwork is just part of travel now, the looming fear of Ryanair or Aer Lingus cancelling your flights for sport is also everpresent. Sure enough that happened to me. So I jumped onto a Lufthansa flight instead and bought myself some WiFi to test out. Is it worth buying in-flight WiFi? Lufthansa does offer an ever increasing number of flights with in-flight WiFi.

This service is called FlyNet. Not too long ago, such services were reserved for long-haul flights, but Lufthansa is rolling this out to more and more short-haul flights too.

I had a flight from Frankfurt to Dublin which was about 1. Hardly long enough to typically justify paying for WiFi, but long enough for me to test drive the service. The answer is that it depends. I was surprised at some of the great speeds I was getting.

Also, I got every speed in between. But now, at least for some short-haul fliers in Europe, free WiFi is here. When fellow Simple Flying journalist Tom Boon tweeted me from his Lufthansa flight, he was thoroughly overexcited to be passing over Chateauroux and spotting the British Airways As stored there. I, on the other hand, was excited for another reason — Tom had WiFi in the sky. Lufthansa has long been providing WiFi on short-haul flights, for a fee.

But this was no fee-paying offer from the German giant. No, Tom was enjoying connectivity in flight and functional connectivity at that completely free of charge. Having done some digging, it turns out a whole lot of Lufthansa short- and medium-haul passengers can now connect for free on their flights. Any Deutsche Telekom customer can now access free WiFi on Lufthansa flights for any short- or medium-haul trips within Europe.
