It was a feeling almost like lust. As the book progresses, we see William devolve into rape and sadism, becoming wholly unsympathetic. With such a clear parallel, and in a book that Sylar respected and enjoyed, I find it hard to believe that he would continue his typically violent behavior.
It parallels well with the watchmaker thing. Instead, he reminds Claire of their similarities and suggests building bridges.
And he was obsessed with Pillars of the Earth. Claire has little to gain at this point from a Sylaire relationship, so it would take some time and pretty interesting circumstances to get her to agree to be in a relationship with Sylar.
The questions then are 1 whether Claire would have the emotional capacity to eventually forgive Sylar and love him, and 2 if not, whether either would be desperate enough to attempt an unhealthy relationship anyway.
I think that covers about everything that I had to say. I believe either character has the potential to be abusive, but am currently more concerned about Claire doing so due to her legitimate hatred of Sylar and that she has normalized abusive actions that her father committed. I know that there were only seven female writers for the duration of Heroes , contributing to a total of 16 17 episodes, which might have contributed to why Sylaire started looking endgame despite how problematic it was.
